Here are Beauty Districts’ most asked bridal questions about our makeup and hair services that will beautify you + assist your wedding day to be picture perfect.

  • Why should I hire Makeup + Hair services as opposed to doing it myself?

Investing in a professional Makeup Artist + Stylist is as important as hiring a skilled wedding photographer. An experienced + trained artist knows which beauty products, techniques + shades to use for your skin type for both on and off camera, allowing you to look your absolute best! They also know which products are best suited for your hair type, texture and they’re up to date on the most current beauty trends.

  • What is airbrush makeup?

Airbrush makeup is a waterproof foundation + blush technique, which is sprayed onto the skin delivering pixelated coverage. It is one of the most natural finishes, with the best coverage and feels like nothing on your skin. As it is sprayed on, it connects with the skin as millions of droplets of foundation. This is what creates an even, sheer, natural appearance that is not heavy like traditional makeup. Traditional liquid or powder foundations can settle into pores and wrinkles and appear more visible without the staying power of airbrush.

It is imperative for covering any discoloration or texture issues, as well as, it has a staying power for up to 12-24 hours. Foundation colours are custom made to match your exact skin tone and it is transfer resistant + waterproof which is perfect for tears or humidity on those hot summer wedding days!

  • Are bridal pre-trials included in price? Do I even need a trial?

Pre trials are booked as a separate makeup application or hair style, and payment is required for this service. Trial runs are a very important way to ensure the right makeup + hair look will represent your style and comfort level on your wedding day. We don’t believe in cookie cutter looks and want you to feel the most beautiful and the most like you on your special day! Please see prices here.

Trials are not mandatory but encouraged to allow you and your artist a chance to get to know each other + build a stylized look together. They’ll go over important details like your wedding theme, colours, dress style and flowers so they can create a look unique to you. Bridal makeup should be classic and timeless based around your likes + dislikes! We will assess your skin and give you one on one beauty regime recommendations + makeup tips to purchase for touch ups.

  • Can we do my trial on the same day as my engagement session?

Yes you can however, it would only make sense to do so if you plan to have the same hair + makeup look for the wedding day as your engagement; which ruins the surprise of your wedding look. We recommend booking a separate pre trial appointment from your engagement session. If you just want to get a feel for your artist/stylist, and trust them on the day of to do your wedding look, then you can just book the one engagement session.

  • Can I book a pre trial appointment before I book my wedding date?

To secure your wedding date, we require a 50% deposit and a signed contract. We will not hold your wedding date until you decide to book after your pre trial, therefore, you would risk the chance of losing your wedding date to another client. We don’t guarantee your date without a contract.

  • How far in advance should I book a trial?

We recommend booking your trial as soon as you decide you would like to book us for your Wedding Date. This way, we have plenty of time to address any concerns or changes.

June through September book up with Weddings, so we like to get as many of our trials done prior to our busy wedding season.

  • Is there a contract minimum; do you have discounted bundle packages?

We do not require a minimum booking, nor do we offer bundled packages, since every bride and wedding party have different needs. We will give you a quote based on your headcount, location requests, services required etc.

  • Do you have a Studio?

Beauty District only offers mobile services with our team of professional makeup artists + stylists. We travel to you for your beauty services for any occasion and do not have a Studio at this time.

  • Will you travel if my wedding is out of Calgary, AB?

Yes, we love to travel!  There will be additional travel fees for time and mileage per artist, along with the possibility of hotel stays and per diem depending on your location and scope of your request.

    • For locations 100km (1hr) or more outside of Calgary, with a morning start time earlier then 8:00am, client may be required to pay for accommodations for contracted artist(s), the night prior to wedding day.
    • For long distance locations (3hr drive or more), a 2 night accommodation may be required for the evening prior to wedding and the day of wedding evening for booked artist(s).
    • Artist(s) must be booked in at the same hotel as the Bridal party getting ready venue.
    • There is a $100 per day, per artist(s) food + beverage fee, for each day that we are required to be at the destination.
  • How long does hair and makeup take? How many artists will be there on my wedding day?

We schedule up to 4-6 hours for makeup + hair on the wedding day. We typically book one artist for every 4-5 women getting makeup, the same as well for hair styling.

If you want us to staff more artists in a shorter amount of time, you can request that option for an additional staffing fee. For example 6 makeup in 2 hours, we would need more artists. Generally we charge $100 per assistant/hr and all fees are discussed prior to signing the contract.

Each attendant takes approximately 45min for makeup; and for hair up to an hour, depending on style and hair length. We book the bride in for a full hour for makeup and an hour or more depending on hair style.

  • Do you offer hourly rates for touch ups? I want a second look for my reception.

Yes we offer hourly rates for touch ups, please inquire for pricing. A second look can be provided with the same rates as your initial makeup or hair look.

  • Will the makeup last all day?

We use setting sprays, powders, and water-resistant products, but for ultimate longevity, silicone based airbrush is the most durable and longwearing. We will build the coverage of your foundation to your comfort wear that is great on camera + in person.

Our professional makeup artists and stylists are current on trends + use techniques to set your wedding makeup so it lasts all day, even on a hot summer day!
We include a small container of lip product used in your makeup application so you can refresh your lip colour throughout the day. Makeup touch up kit is available at additional cost.

  • What makeup products do you use?

We use a variety of industry cosmetics and high quality, professional luxury brands in order to be both artists and solution-makers. It’s our job to understand color theory and cosmetics chemistry in order to create lovely and long-lasting makeup designs for clients.
We stock our kits with a wide array of the best products available in the industry. Everything from Makeup For Ever, MAC, Too Faced, Hourglass, Nars, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Benefit, Urban Decay, Laura Mercier + more!

  • How do you keep your tools and products clean?

Hygiene is extremely important to us, and we ensure all of our tools have been thoroughly shampooed and sanitized before use. We use disposable mascara wands and palettes instead of applying products directly out of their containers. We sanitize all of our tools in between clients using professional-grade, 99% alcohol brush cleaner. 70% as well to disinfect product.

  • I have sensitive skin + allergies. Do you have products that will work for me?

If you have allergies or sensitive skin, be sure to notify your makeup artist. We use latex based lash adhesive, but your artist will have an alternative adhesive. Most professional products now are dermatologist tested and hypoallergenic. We cannot guarantee you will not have a reaction to a product though, as hypoallergenic means you are less likely to have a reaction. Our Artists are trained to assess your skin and will do their best to use the right products based on your sensitivities.

  • What is your deposit and payment policy?

We require a non refundable, 50% deposit within one week of signing your contract.  The deposit goes towards your final invoice. The remaining payment is due 2 weeks prior to the wedding date. The booking client is responsible for paying remaining balance on invoice, not individually if it is a booked party.  We accept e-transfers to info@beautydistrict.ca  as well as credit card is accepted with a 5% service charge.

All payments are to be payed to Beauty District, any additional services or costs added at your appointment is also to be paid to Beauty District, not to your booked artist. We will send any outstanding invoices for these services after your appointment.

  • What is your contract booking policy?

We ask that you fully read through our Booking Policy online here.  It is exactly what will be on your contract.  From there we require a phone/Skype/FaceTime consultation with owner + lead makeup artist Jaimie Rankin to discuss your needs or questions further, and to verify we are mutually a good fit.  If you decide to move forward with booking a Beauty District team member, we will then send you a contract + invoice for you to review and sign.

  • Is gratuity included?

No, however it is a typical practice to give a tip to your makeup and hair team. If you feel gratuity was earned, you can prepare cash, e-transfer or cheque and give the whole amount directly to Jaimie, who will then distribute it to the team as appropriate. Industry standard is 20%. For convenience we can automatically add 20% to your total invoice.

  • How will my artists + stylist be assigned?

We book our artists + stylists at random based on availability, and do our best to match our client with the artist we feel is best suited to their style. All of our Makeup Artists have a professional, similar style of application and are certified artists by a government accredited makeup diploma. The owner of the company, Jaimie Rankin was one of their educators prior to being accepted onto the team and they were selected based on their application techniques and professionalism. Our trained hair stylists have come from various backgrounds of doing hair.

  • Can I request my artists?

Yes you may! We can book them for you based on their availability. If you want to request Jaimie Rankin, Owner and Lead Makeup Artist, a premium fee is added to her costs based on her 17+ years of expertise and skill level. Jaimie only accepts 12 weddings a year and books up quickly!

  • Do you provide clip in hair extensions?

No we do not provide clip in hair extensions, however we can put them in and style them for you at an additional cost. If you need to get clip-in extensions for more length or thickness, we recommend getting 100% Remy Human Hair in order to be able to curl and style them. You can purchase Euronext extensions from Sally Beauty Supply or splurge a bit and go online to get Luxy Hair, or Cashmere Hair extensions. You will need to have your regular stylist cut and color them before your pre trial appointment. If you are unsure if extensions will be required for the style you want to request, you can always contact us to chat further.

  • It states false lashes are included, what kind do you provide?

We provide various bridal styles of standard strip or individual lashes that are included in ALL of our makeup services. Mink and 3-D volume lashes are available at an additional cost. We do not discount services for requests to skip out on using our false eyelashes.
